Important details:
Consulting sessions cost $100 per hour ($80 for undergraduate students with valid ID)
We define “visual arts” to include: analog & digital photography, mixed media, and image based collage
Once you book a session you will receive a short questionnaire to better prepare us to meet your needs
We are only able to work with artists who are 18+
Although we are always keeping an eye out for interesting work to consider for publication, please bear in mind that participation in a consulting session does not guarantee publication in Pamplemousse Magazine.

nora lalle
Nora Lalle is an artist, curator, and the founder of Pamplemousse Magazine. She brings a unique and valuable perspective to consulting with her varied personal and professional experience in the arts, and her journey building a successful print publication.
Prior to creating the magazine, Nora spent almost a decade building a career in the arts at Bay Area institutions including the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and Fraenkel Gallery. These roles gave her invaluable insight into how organizations and commercial galleries operate, as well as a deep understanding of photography in both a historic and contemporary context.
Nora’s photography and mixed media work has been shown in numerous group shows as well as a 2023 solo exhibition at Book & Job Gallery in San Francisco. In 2024, she curated a group exhibition at PhotoLounge Gallery in Philadelphia, PA and was the lead curator for the Spring 2025 group exhibition at the East Bay Photo Collective in Oakland, CA.
In 2025, Nora’s professional opportunities will include leading a group critique with SF Camerawork, participating as a member of the jury for the URBAN Photo Awards, and serving as a portfolio reviewer for the Medium Photo Review.
Nora has been studying photography, using film and analog cameras, and getting her hands dirty in the darkroom since she was a teenager. She holds a BA from Connecticut College and completed a one year Certificate Program in Photographic Arts at the Paris College of Art.
Nora’s passion for photography and professional experience combined with the creative direction and execution of seven magazine issues position her as an accomplished advisor and mentor to aspiring and established photographers and creatives of all background and experience levels.

Since 2017 I’ve worked on print projects from simple zines to hardcover photobooks with a variety of clients. I will answer your questions, lead you through the process, and provide connections for design and printing. We will review your goals and expectations and I’ll share what I’ve learned along the way to transform your ideas into something tangible. We can focus on getting started and the logistics of how to bring a print project to life and I can also offer a collaborative approach to image editing, sequencing and pairing to improve the strength of your print project. I’ll help you refine your point of view and guide you in the process of putting your idea out into the world.

Whether you are just getting started with photography or are already pursuing a career, let me help you build confidence and navigate the sometimes intimidating fine art world. We’ll review best practices, ways to hone your skills and artistic voice, and how to find and approach opportunities such as: open calls, photo contests, portfolio reviews, and exhibitions. Let me help you push beyond your comfort zone and go after what you want, no matter how ambitious.

I will use my extensive experience both curating exhibitions and participating in them to help you conceive of your work in a physical 3D space. We will review the required preparation for group and individual shows. This includes curating a selection of images that tells an impactful story on the wall, and the sequence and presentation of those images. I will advise you on the details of executing the prints down to image size and resolution to paper choice and printing resources and timeline. We will discuss framing and the pros and cons of investing in different presentation options. Let me help you make the most of opportunities to get your work seen!

I’ll support you in figuring out the best way to write about yourself, your work, and your ideas in the form of an artist statement, project description, exhibition description or proposal, or application. We’ll work together to craft clear, impactful text that enhances your visual work. The goal is to make sure your unique voice comes through while articulating your ideas in a professional and succinct manner.

With a focus on projects shot on film, I will provide feedback and constructive critique of an ongoing or completed body of work. I will consider the concept and technical execution, overall sequencing and presentation, and give specific guidance on ways to move forward down to film and camera choice, subject and composition. We will review your goals and prepare you for reviews, workshops, and more formal critiques.

jess Rhodes
Jess Rhodes is a photographer, photo editor, and Senior Editor of Pamplemousse Magazine. With a keen eye for visual storytelling and a dedication to fostering photographic talent, Jess brings a wealth of experience to her sessions.
Jess was awarded the 2025 Photowork Foundation Jr. Fellowship and the 2024 VII Foundation Mentorship. She served as a roaming reviewer at the Filter Photo Festival in 2024. Her work has been selected for recognition by the New York Times Portfolio Review, the Charcoal Book Club Chico Review, the Magnum Foundation, and numerous other juried workshops/reviews.
Her professional experience includes serving as a studio assistant to Jim Goldberg and contributing to archival and digitization projects within Stanford University's Rare Book collection. She is an alumna and community member of the VII Foundation Academy and was part of the Group Study collective.
Jess holds a BFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Her educational background also includes documentary photography studies at LCC University of the Arts London, and coursework at Academy of Art University, the University of Texas San Antonio, and Baylor University.
In addition to her photography practice, Jess has acted as a social media manager, small business marketing professional, and co-created/wrote a cartoon that made its way to the doorstep of Nickelodeon. She has also edited text for screenwriters and fiction authors.
Having attended over 15 workshops, festivals, and portfolio reviews, Jess brings a unique perspective and understanding of the evolving landscape of contemporary photography that can help artists of any level achieve their creative goals.
