Marie Le moigne
This series is composed of 35mm color film photographs made between 2011 and 2012 in my maternal grandparents’ house in Franche-Comté, France.
Through these images, I explore domestic space as a fragile archive of memory, where ordinary objects become emotional relics charged with absence, intimacy, and latent unease.
Photographing this environment on analog film was a deliberate choice. The slowness of the medium, its material unpredictability, and its capacity to register dust, grain, faded tones, and accidental light leaks mirror the instability of remembrance itself. Film does not simply document; it transforms the scene into something porous, vulnerable, and haunted by time. The aging surfaces, dated wallpaper patterns, kitchen utensils, flowers wrapped in plastic, or traces of everyday rituals all become fragments of a personal archaeology.
The found photograph that inspired this submission was the (IMAGE of the boy on the couch). I was drawn to its washed-out quality, muted palette, and especially the repetitive decorative motifs visible in the domestic interior. Its faded aesthetic immediately resonated with my own visual language and with my attraction to vernacular spaces marked by time, care, decay, and transmission.
Marie Le Moigne is a French artist and design teacher, born in 1989 in Quimper. She lives and works in Brittany. Trained in applied arts, she continued her studies at the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) in Brussels, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Fine, Visual and Spatial Arts.
Her multidisciplinary practice primarily combines analogue photography, video, writing, materials and new technologies. Through autofictional narratives and poetic forms, her work explores memory, identity, inheritance, the female body, as well as the traces of absence and trauma. Her series unfold within intimate spaces where document and fiction, reality and dream, body and landscape converge.
Her work has been presented in several festivals, exhibitions and international projects. In France, she notably exhibited in 2025 at the La Science de l’Art festival, as part of a collaborative project with Elsa Godard, and at the Impulse Festival in Arles. She will soon present her work in Italy at the INSIGHT Foto Festival.
She is a finalist for the 2026 Polyptyque Artist Book Prize and was a finalist in the TIPA Photo Contest for My Camera and I in 2024. That same year, she was awarded the national Prix Horizon Desjoyaux, which led to her work Je vous regarde being acquired for the company’s private collection.
